“This Is It” earned $101 million worldwide; No. 1 but disappointment

The latest buzz of Sony’s Michael Jackson documentary, “This Is It,” did not thrill large crowd of audience in North America. Away from North America the movie gathered stronger fan.

“This Is It” is a film of footage of Michael Jackson before the London concert. It has been compiled from 120 hours of his rehearsal when Jackson was preparing for the concert at the time of his death in June. The film has made about $68.5 million in five days in international sales says the studio.

“This Is It” was No. 1 film, but the result was of disappointment. To promote the picture Sony tried everything to make it as a must-see event to all the fans worldwide.

The total revenue of the film worldwide was $101 million. Sony invested $60 million to make the movie, excluding marketing costs. It is on the way of getting a good profit. When the DVD sales are included then it is even more.

Rory Bruer, President of Sony for worldwide distribution said, “We couldn’t be more pleased — a tremendous result.”

Sony also extended the run of the movie through Thanksgiving in the US. According to the spokesman, Sony would announce it for Canada and overseas markets also soon.

One thing is to be noted. “This Is It” beat earlier record for a concert film. “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour,” the former record holder, had a lifetime worldwide gross in 2008 of $70.6 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

“This Is It” is a movie of Mr. Jackson’s planned 50-date engagement in London. It consisted scenes of Jacksons’ doing rehears, sometimes whole-heartedly and sometimes not whole-heartedly.

Brothers Lazy, Mother Disappointing, Father Jealous says Michael Jackson

In a video show King of Pop Michael Jackson, who died in June this year, called his brothers as “lazy”, his mother to be a “disappointing” and his dad a “jealous” person.

Michael Jackson took in the video show each of his family member one by one and he expressed his disappointment with each of them. This video interview was recorded with anonymous writer of his autobiography ‘Moonwalk’.

MJ while talking to his ‘Jackson 5’ group said, “The brothers didn’t give me support. We’d be working on a TV show or video and they’d be sitting around moaning and groaning but I’d be watching and learning. It takes a talent, but some people are lazy and don’t want to develop anything.”

Though earlier Michael Jackson insisted that he was very close to his mother, but the video tape secret reveals something else. About his mother in the video MJ said, “She disappointed me. She did an interview (about him). I don’t like her to talk. It’s none of those people’s business.”

The video interview of MJ also discloses his feelings for his father. He said, “He is a very jealous father. He isn’t gonna show you love, but anybody that gets closer to us than him he would tell them, ‘Leave my boys alone!’. I never have felt close to him.”

It was also learned from the video that Michael Jackson was jealous when Janet Jackson, his sister, got married. MJ said, “Janet is a tomboy. That is why it kills me to see her off and married. We did everything together and were just alike…It’s a terrible loss.”

…he was a king. Long live the king: Madonna on Michael Jackson

Madonna, the pop diva, paid a personal tribute to the late king of pop Michael Jackson at the opening of the MTV Video Music Awards 2009 in New York. In her tribute she accused herself and the world of abandoning Michael Jackson.

Madonna spoke describing her early friendship with MJ and she said that she regretted loosing lost touch with him over the time.

The Music hitmaker said to the audience in the award ceremony, “For one reason or another we fell out of touch, then the witchhunt began and it seemed like one story after another came out about Michael. I felt his pain, I know what it’s like to walk down the street and feel like the whole world is turned against you.”

She further mentioned, “I know what it’s like to feel hopeless and not able to defend yourself because the roar of the witchhunt is so loud you’re convinced your voice can never be heard.”

Madonna also spoke what she emotionally felt when she heard the death news of Michael Jackson.

She said that when she first came across the shocking news of Michael Jackson, she was in London where MJ was also supposed to perform (the same venue) a week later. The news made her think about how she had abandoned Michael.

She added further, “While he was trying to build a family and rebuild his career, we were all busy passing judgment, most of us had turned our backs on him. Sometimes, we have to lose things before we can truly appreciate them… There will never be anyone like him ever again, he was a king. Long live the king.”

The award ceremony also had a musical tribute to Michael Jackson. The music videos of MJ such as Thriller and Bad were played on big screen and performers dressed like Michael Jackson danced in MJs signature style.

The dance performers were also joined by Jackson’s sister Janet Jackson.
